The data center is divided into multiple different levels of wiring areas: the main wiring area (MDA); Intermediate Wiring Area (IDA) Horizontal wiring Area (HDA) Regional Distribution Area (ZDA) Equipment wiring Area (EDA).

The main distribution area includes the main cross-connection (MC) distribution equipment and is the central distribution point of the structured cabling distribution system in the data center. When the equipment is directly connected to the main distribution area, the main distribution area may include horizontal cross-connection (HC) distribution equipment. The main distribution area can, with the support of routers, core switches, core storage area network switching equipment and PBX equipment at the core of the data center network, serve the intermediate distribution areas, horizontal distribution areas or equipment distribution areas of one or more data centers at different locations, as well as the telecommunications rooms outside each data center. And provide services and support for the office area, operation center and the following external support areas. Sometimes, communication equipment (such as communication transmission facilities) connected to telecommunications service operators is also placed in this area to prevent cables from exceeding the rated transmission distance. The main wiring area is located inside the computer room. To enhance security, it can be set up in a dedicated space within the computer room. Each data center should have at least one main distribution area.
